What to expect from your first counseling session in Denver
You know you need a change. You’ve looked at a lot of websites, feel confused and don’t know how to find the right counselor for you. Maybe I can help or point you in the right direction? Schedule a free 15 minute consultation.
What will happen after you decide to schedule?
When you schedule your free 15 minute consultation, I will send you a confirmation and a reminder with a video link or phone number. At the time we connect, please be prepared to let me know in 2-3 sentences what you need help with. You can ask some questions. I will let you know how I work. If I’m the right counselor for you, we can schedule your first session.
What will happen in the first session?
As a Christian counselor specializing in anxiety, trauma and substance abuse, we do a comprehensive intake that covers your family, social, mental and physical health history in the first one or two sessions.
How long will it take to start noticing change and feeling better?
At the end of the intake we will talk about what you want your life to look like in the next three to six months as well as in a year. We will collaborate on finding long-term goals and short-term actions you can take that week. It usually takes 2-3 months to start noticing change. You may feel worse at times before you feel better.
What do you need to do to prepare for the first session?
I’ll send you an email asking for additional information to link you to the patient portal. I’ll reply with a confirmation for our first session that has easy instructions on completing your patient packet and give you directions to my workspace conveniently located in Cherry Creek North. Our first session will be in-person unless you need to start with online counseling right away.
Will I have homework?
We come up with goals from the treatment plan that are broken into small steps you can take that week. I find people who do their homework progress faster in their healing.
When will I have my next session?
The next session will be the following week, at the same time on the same day. I work intensely with clients on a weekly basis which means they have noticeable improvement in a shorter time.
What if I don’t like what happened in the first session or I am not sure it is a good match?
I ask for feedback at the beginning or end of each new session. We can talk about your expectations and make a change. If you need to move on, we can do a final session to wrap up loose ends and I can give you a referral.
I hope this helps you know what to expect from you first counseling session with the right Christian counselor in Denver. If you are still feeling stuck, feel free to call me at 720-577-5985.
